Rivergate Apartment
A minimalistic apartment at Rivergate
CONTEXT
Situated at Rivergate condominium, this minimalistic apartment offers an inspiring view of the vibrant and youthful city of Ho Chi Minh, overlooking the Saigon River. The owner, a young fashion designer with a strong inclination for orderliness, sought an interior design that includes a master bedroom for themselves and another for their younger sister, with an emphasis on spaciousness, minimalism, and functionality.
CONCEPT
With an area of approximately 100m2, the process of designing this apartment faced constraints imposed by the building's strict regulations regarding wall removal, existing technical systems, and construction limitations. To reconcile these factors, we embraced the concept of "minimalism" by focusing on creating an open and spacious environment with streamlined solutions. We paid meticulous attention to both functionality and aesthetics, ensuring that the "minimalistic" style harmonized with the owner's refined taste.
LAYOUT
Given the outlined limitations, we prioritized small yet impactful interventions to enhance the overall space. Emphasis was placed on subtraction rather than addition, shifting priorities in favor of repositioning elements over changing the whole structure, flattening protruding features that divided spaces, and introducing clear architectural language. By removing the existing kitchen partition wall, covering up the loggia with sliding doors, and establishing connectivity, we redirected attention towards the central area. We strategically repositioned bedroom entrances and slightly altered the master bathroom layout to increase its spaciousness. Placing large mirrors at strategic locations, in line with the owner's preferences, created unexpected visual expansions.
Within the orderly and geometrically defined space, we introduced elements to disrupt uniformity. A round table takes center stage, complemented by an artistically painted wall and a slender iron shelf intentionally arranged to add subtle allure.
MATERIALS AND COLORS
The dominant color palette comprises three main colors: creamy white, gray and wooden, creating a bright harmonious yet simple design. On the other hand, metallic materials such as iron and stainless steel are introduced in specific details, serving as strong focal points. By incorporating these materials, we aimed to enhance the solidity and coherence of our design structure.
